Portrait Colour Pencil Drawing

The TAFE assignment today was interesting and I think it's a good exercise for anyone wanting to learn how to draw faces better. You cut out a large picture of a face out of a magazine, rule columns 2cm wide down the picture, then cut them out. Re-align the columns to form the picture again, and glue down every second column. Remove the strips in between and you're left with gaps between the picture. Next, using colour pencils, fill in all the parts of the picture that are missing.

The effect is pretty cool, half is photo, half is colour pencil. Unfortunately the colour pencils we had available to us there were pretty cheap pencils, but I did the best I could. One of the students kept laughing at me because I kept saying how much I missed my Derwent Artist Pencils, lol. What can I say, I'm spoilt with art supplies.
In the pictures above, the photo is the darker sections, the paler sections I drew with coloured pencil. I think the effect is really neat!
